Good to know
What we are asked most: the cardamom, keeping it, delivery and buying by the kilo.
We are the farmers: it goes from our own plants in the Idukki hills to our own packing line, with no auction or trader in between. Picked at the right maturity, then cured and graded, it has bold size, natural colour and a strong, sweet aroma.
We are producers and processors on our own estate in the Western Ghats. We grow, clean and grade it ourselves, so retail, wholesale and export buyers get consistent quality, better pricing and full traceability from the same lots.
Bold grades of 6 mm, 7 mm and 8 mm+, sorted for uniform size, colour and density. Every retail pack on this site is 8 mm+; see the grades on the trade page.
Every batch is cleaned, size graded and colour sorted under strict moisture and hygiene controls. It all comes from one estate, so there is no lot-to-lot variation from buying at auction.
Yes. We never coat or colour our pods; the green comes from picking at peak ripeness and curing slowly, because heat dulls a pod.
Yes, all are Elettaria cardamomum. Black cardamom (badi elaichi) is not: it is a larger, smoke-dried pod with a heavy, resinous flavour for savoury cooking.
No, deliberately. The husk holds the aroma in and ground cardamom loses it within weeks, so we sell whole pods for you to grind on the day.
We also grow black pepper and plan to add more spices. For now, cardamom is the only thing sold on this site.
Keep pods whole in an airtight tin, away from sunlight and the stove, and grind only what you need. Whole pods stay aromatic for months; ground cardamom fades within weeks.
Less than you think: one pod for a pot of chai, three or four for a kilo of rice. If you can taste it rather than smell it, there is too much.
For biryani, pulao or curry, crush the whole pod and add it; for a powder, use just the black seeds. Spent husks simmered with sugar and water make a spiced syrup.
A household using cardamom daily gets through about 50 g in two months, which is why the 50 g tin is our most-bought pack. The 10 g matki suits a gift or a first try, the 250 g and 500 g pouches keen cooks; compare all seven.
Every pack carries a manufacturing date, a batch number and a best-before of 12 months from the date of manufacture. Cardamom fades rather than spoils, so that date is about aroma, not safety.

No. Cardamom is a food product sealed at the estate, so there are no returns or exchanges once an order is dispatched, but you can cancel at no cost any time before dispatch (full terms).
